Scientific research and technological advancement are pivotal elements of the progress and prosperity of nations in various developmental areas, as developed countries, striving towards progress, have long understood. In fact, the developed countries have spared no expense in supporting research and development, dedicating a considerable portion of their GDP (Gross Domestic Product) to this purpose, a matter which has lead to the revolution we witness today in the fields of science and information. Thus we can conclude that the fierce competition marking nowadays relations between nations effectively relies on the possession of information technology.

We are now witnessing development at an increasing pace, proliferation of beneficial developmental projects, and ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We are also noticing a growing concern among our people in a world where the strength and position of nations are measured by their achievements in terms of growth and ability to benefit from and employ scientific and technological progress for establishing developmental projects.

It is the realization of the fact that any developmental effort must be based on solid scientific foundation that lead our government to dedicate great attention to science and technology. The conception of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has emerged in 1397H for the purpose of promoting and supporting applied scientific research and coordinating the tasks of scientific institutions and research centers for meeting developmental needs.
